Armes Summit Breakout Sessions
During the Summit, we are thrilled to offer you four opportunities to enjoy insightful breakout sessions at the Armes Family Christian Leadership in Business Summit, during which attendees can connect with and learn from world-class faculty from Baylor University, University of South Carolina, and Wheaton College.
Please note, each of these 11 faculty sessions are offered during each of the breakout session slots on the Summit program. After reviewing the available sessions, please rank order your top six sessions through the Qualtrics link sent to you. We look forward to customizing your Summit experience based on your preferences and kindly ask that you complete your rankings by May 6. If we do not receive your selections by then, we will assign breakout sessions on your behalf.
UNDERSTANDING CEO INFLUENCE ON CORPORATE CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS
Featuring Daniel Chen, Randall W. and Sandra Ferguson Endowed Professor, Information Systems and Business Analytics at Baylor University
Professor Chen will discuss findings from a large-scale study on S&P companies, examining why certain firms are more likely to develop a high level of information security awareness, and others are not. He will particularly focus on the effects of CEO personalities and firm financial performance.

RELIGION IN A CHANGING WORKPLACE: UNDERSTANDING CALLING
with Denise Daniels, Hudson T. Harrison Professor of Entrepreneurship at Wheaton College
Professor Daniels will discuss findings from a 5-year study based on over 15,000 surveys and 300 interviews, examining how people in the US think about their faith at work. She will particularly focus on concepts of calling, and explore various ways that one’s experience of calling could be engaged and developed.

REPUTATION REPAIR: HOW GREAT LEADERS HELP THEIR COMPANY SURVIVE A CRISIS
with Rebecca Files, Professor and William E. Crenshaw Chair, Accounting at Baylor University
Professor Files will provide insights from a Christian perspective on how firms respond to financial misconduct. More specifically, she will explore how the actions taken by corporate leaders in the wake of misconduct affect a wide range of stakeholders, including employees, investors, litigants, and regulators. This session will challenge leaders at all levels to consider how their responses in times of crisis shape the people they lead and the integrity of the organizations they serve.

with Kaylee Hackney, Associate Professor, Management at Baylor University
Professor Hackney will guide participants through the principles of Christian stewardship as they apply to creating a well-balanced life. We will discuss the importance of setting priorities, managing our time and energy effectively, and cultivating a heart of gratitude and service. Attendees will leave with actionable insights and a renewed perspective on work-life balance.

NEGOTIATING LIKE JESUS: USING AN ABUNDANCE AND VIRTUOUS APPROACH TO BUILD VALUE
with Emily Hunter, Professor and Chair, Management at Baylor University
What if negotiation wasn’t about winning, but about reflecting the character of Christ? Professor Hunter will dive into how Christian leaders can engage in negotiation with integrity, virtuosity, and deep respect for the dignity of others. You'll participate in a hands-on listening exercise, examine how to view others through the lens of God and explore how embracing an abundance mindset can transform conflict into collaboration and open new pathways to shared value.

BEYOND SERVANT LEADERSHIP? EXPLORING BIBLICAL LEADERSHIP STYLES THROUGH THE LEADERSHIP DIAL
with Forest Kim, Clinical Associate Professor; Executive Director, Robbins Institute for Health Policy and Leadership at Baylor University
Professor Kim will explore the merits of adaptive leadership using a model called the Leadership Dial. Drawing on Biblical narratives and personal stories, Dr. Kim will illuminate four leadership styles: the Reflective Leader, the Traditional Leader, the Servant-Leader, and the Visionary Leader. In this interactive session, participants will uncover their dominant and dormant leadership styles and leave equipped with actionable strategies to enhance their effectiveness as Christian leaders.

FLATTENING THE HIERARCHY: A MODEL FOR THE 21ST CENTURY?
with Peter Klein, W.W. Caruth Chair, Entrepreneurship at Baylor University
Professor Klein will discuss the evolution of the managerial hierarchy and the role of managers in the modern era. Based on his recent book Why Managers Matter: The Perils of the Bossless Company, Klein will lead a discussion on changing workforce expectations and attitudes about autonomy and flexibility and ways that managers can encourage cooperation and coordination without stifling creativity and innovation.

BUSINESS INSIGHTS FROM GOSPEL PARABLES: THE COMMENDING OWNER
with Blaine McCormick, Associate Professor, Management at Baylor University
Professor McCormick will focus on the commercial parables of Jesus found in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, particularly highlighting the Parable of the Commending Owner, commonly known as the Parable of the Dishonest Manager in Luke 16. By examining the parable through a business and commercial lens, participants will seek to discern the character of the Commending Owner and discuss which aspects of the Owner’s character are worthy of imitation in their own businesses.

UNDERSTANDING AND NAVIGATING DIVERSITY CONVERSATIONS AS A CHRISTIAN LEADER IN BUSINESS
with Sara Perry, Ben Williams Professor, Management at Baylor University
Professor Perry will facilitate a discussion to help Christians better understand and meaningfully participate in the wide range of conversations ongoing about diversity in organizations. Grounded in a biblical perspective, we will define and discuss terminology that is often misunderstood and even at times divisive. We will explore ways to promote mutual understanding, engage in civil discourse, and design effective and strategic workplace solutions surrounding this topic.

TO PHUB (PHONE SNUB), OR NOT TO PHUB: THE IMPACT OF OFFICE PHONE USE ON EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY.
with James Roberts, Ben Williams Professor, Marketing at Baylor University
Professor Roberts will lead a conversation on phone use in the workplace and its impact on employee performance. The discussion will explore your current phone use policies (what works and what doesn’t) and discuss ways to implement policies that work both for employees and management.

IMAGO DEI MANAGEMENT: FROM MANAGING HUMAN CAPITAL TO STEWARDING IMAGE BEARERS
with Patrick M. Wright, Thomas C. Vandiver Bicentennial Chair in Business at University of South Carolina
Professor Wright will lead a discussion regarding how a creational theology can change the way we view work and workers. It will explore the implications of how the assumptions we hold regarding the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social nature of mankind can impact how we manage people in the workplace.
