The Basics

If you are 70½ or older, you can make a charitable gift up to $111,000 annually directly from your IRA to Baylor University. For those who are required to take minimum distributions from their IRA, a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), commonly referred to as an IRA charitable rollover, can count toward satisfying that requirement and is generally excluded from federal taxable income.

By directing a portion of your IRA distribution to Baylor, you may be able to reduce your taxable income and potentially lessen the impact of certain income and capital gains taxes. Because every situation is different, we encourage you to consult your advisor to see how an IRA rollover gift may impact your taxes.

To make an IRA rollover gift, simply contact your custodian and request that a distribution be transferred to Baylor University. Your gift can be made in an amount that is meaningful to you, whether that is $1,000 or $111,000.

Another Option

If you are not ready to make a gift during your lifetime, consider making a charitable bequest.

Naming Baylor as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your IRA allows you to make full use of your funds during your lifetime. Baylor will benefit in the future from what remains. Your plan custodian can provide you with a form to designate Baylor University as a beneficiary of your IRA.

These are just a few options of the many ways you can support Baylor through gift planning.
